China Explorer Day 10

After a stroll around the hotel garden enjoying the flowers and mountain views we set off from Dali to make our way to Lijiang.
On route our first stop was at a jade factory for another shopping opportunity! It was typically Chinese, large, over staffed, but selling some interesting pieces -if you like that sort of thing!
Outside there was a lovely lake with views over to the mountains. At least there was something to look at whilst the ladies went shopping!

From there we stopped at Xizhou Village to visit a Bai mansion. The structure was very interesting with some lovely features. In on of the rooms were lots of old family photographs of the owners of the property. There was a 'dance' show as well, but this proved hugely disappointing, very touristy and performed by bored lacklustre locals! We made a hasty retreat and continued our journey through a truly dramatic valley towards Lijiang.

We stopped for lunch in a small town and met a pretty young girl who loved her picture being taken after initial shyness. She came to wave us off as we continued our journey.

We arrived in Lijiang and picked up our new local, Tibetan guide. We made our way to our hotel on the outskirts of town, the Guanfang Garden Villas. This is a sprawling complex of apartments, each with their own kitchen and man servant. There is one large suite and four other smaller rooms per block. Fortunately our luck was in and we got the suite and settled in for a comfortable night.
